The Australian ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) is an electronic authorization for traveling to Australia, and the most commonly used Australian Tourist Visa. With an ETA, a person can enter and exit Australia as many times as they wish within 12 months from the day the visa was granted and remain in the country for up to three consecutive months.
A foreign national must apply for an ETA if they hold a passport issued by an ETA eligible country and wish to visit family or friends, have a holiday, attend a conference or undertake any other activity that requires a short-term stay in Australia. The ETA can only be requested from outside Australia, and it’s electronically linked to a person’s passport.
The ETA is valid for up to five years or until the linked passport expires. If you need to apply for an ETA for your upcoming trip to Australia, don’t worry! You can get help online at Australian-visa.co.za and make the process much quicker and straightforward.
Only citizens of certain countries can apply for an Australian ETA, as long as they meet the required criteria. You must apply with the passport you will bring to Australia because the visa will be electronically linked to that passport number only. Source: how long can you stay in france without a visa
The ETA Australia is different from a traditional travel permit because there are no application forms to fill in and no visa label or stamp in your passport:
- If you are visiting Australia with an ETA visa, you must follow the conditions associated with it, or it may be canceled. While you’re in Australia with this permit:
- You must not work; as only limited volunteer work may be allowed.
- You must not participate in studies for longer than three months.
- You must be free from tuberculosis (even at the time of entry)
- You must not face any criminal conviction. (or have any at the time of entry)
The ETA is valid for one year from the day it was issued, or until the associated passport expires. The Australian ETA allows stays of a maximum of three consecutive months per visit. You can enter Australia by multiple means and apply for the ETA from anywhere in the world, except Australia itself. You must plan your trip ahead of time because once you’re in Australia, there is no way to send the online application and be considered for this visa type. Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of the trip, or you will need to exit the country and apply for another ETA. People with dual nationality must choose the nationality according to the passport they will use for the trip. Otherwise, there is a possibility that entry into the country may be denied despite complying with all other requirements.
As mentioned previously, it is impossible to apply for an ETA on arrival to Australia. Besides, the three consecutive months that people are allowed to stay must be strictly respected. If you have to remain in Australia past the three-month mark, you must apply for another visa type or risk being penalized or deported. If you have no other option, you can leave the country for three business days and then enter again with your passport and ETA.
